The 26th volume of the ‟Ulmer Sprachstudien” is published in the year of the 30th anniversary of the Centre for Languages and Philology at Ulm University. The anthology deals with the complex topic of ‟happiness”, which offers a broad umbrella for different view points and analyses.

Once again, no restrictive guidelines were set for the choice of topics and the structure of the articles. Thus, there are contributions from philosophical, linguistic and literary perspectives, but also very personal deliperations concerning the principle of ‟happiness”.

Thus, the content of the articles in this publication is once again very broad. The phenomenon of happiness ‟permeates” all areas of daily life – both in private and in everyday working life and is thus omnipresent. The contributors have taken the opportunity to deal with the phenomenon of ‟happiness” and approach it from their own point of view. Philosophical and linguistic approaches find their way into the anthology just as much as the literary examination in individual representations (Russian novel, Australian drama) or art-theoretical and art-interpretative treatises (painting, Christo). A travelogue (Iceland), a European survey (Denmark) and an analysis of the role of ‟social media” complement the lines of thought presented. Of course, all contributions have one thing in common: a differentiated and analytical examination of the topic and thus, at the same time, a well-founded exploration to the phenomenon of ‟happiness”.
