about this book

deutsch | english

The book „Freiheit. Martin Luther, Karl Barth, Karl Ludwig Sand und Erlangen 1968. Studien zur Geistesgeschichte der Neuzeit“ brings together lectures and articles, all written for specific reasons. The three lectures on Martin Luther show the reformer in relation to the contemporary problems. Peasant’s War, persecution of the left wing in the reformation period, devaluation of good works, denial of the free will and other topics are discussed and examined with the liberating theology of the reformer. The lecture on Karl Barth deals with Barth’s theological answer to the modern challenge of freedom and presents his relation to the philosophy at a glance. The lecture on „Karl Ludwig Sand und das Wartburgfest 1817” illustrates Sand’s engagement in the theology and history of his time. The study „Theologie und Germanistik in der 1968er Zeit in Erlangen“ explores the experience of students in Erlangen during the exciting years between 1968 and 1978. The students in this Franconian University were aware of the political situation, but regardless of everything, they found their own quiet life-rhythm.
