In a world full of challenges and uncertainties, resilience is increasingly becoming the key concept for a healthy and fulfilling life. But how can children and adolescents develop the inner strength that helps them to successfully overcome adverse circumstances? This very question is addressed by the book „Durch Mut und Verantwortung zu Resilienz und innerer Stärke". Created in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, this scientific work sheds light on the mental resilience of young people. The book goes beyond mere theory and shows, through the usage of practical examples, how educational institutions can effectively contribute to the promotion of resilience. Based on a comprehensive empirical study conducted in a secondary school in Lower Austria, it examines the impact of the innovative elective course „Mut und Verantwortung“ (MUVE), which aims to encourage the students' willingness of self-responsibility and to enhance their problem-solving skills. Supported by a detailed documentation of the participants´ self-management the study highlights that resilience can be learned and trained.
Additionally, changes in attitudes towards coping and problem-solving strategies among students are analyzed in detail with the aim of showing the positive effects of targeted educational methods and the early encouragement of protective resilience factors on the development of young people. The insights gained provide concrete approaches for resilience-promoting classroom design. Therefore, this publication is an indispensable work for educators, school administrators, and anyone involved in the developmental support of schools as well as the promotion of children and adolescents.
