About this book deutschenglish
High-stem orchards, traditionally grown on grassland represent an important source of raw material for the processing industry and for traditional fruit processing on family-run farms. As well as these production aspects, high-stem orchards preserve the traditional landscape and indirectly maintain the viability of rural areas. This book presents results of multiyear research until now only partially presented in scientific journals. The authors discuss multifunctional character of traditional Streuobststands and present possible methods for its quantitative assessment. The authors apply two formal methods of multi criteria analysis as well as a method developed especially for this case. The results show that poor to average assessment of Slovenian Streuobst stands mainly caused by poor cultivation of the existing trees. Furthermore, the results enable planning of measures in order to improve condition and environmental contribution of existing orchards.
