One of the major challenges in our world today is the ability to speak many languages. Apart from developing linguistic knowledge, the learning of foreign languages also gives us the opportunity to acquire additional sociocultural skills. Based on a didactic research, the book entitled “Fremdsprachen lehren und lernen in Kamerun. Probleme, Herausforderungen, didaktische Ansätze und Perspektiven” aims at showing that studying the German and Spanish languages in Cameroon enable students to be more open-minded.
This academic work consists of fourteen papers which are divided into four parts. The first part highlights the positive influence of German studies on Cameroonian students. The second focuses on the difficulties one can face in learning a foreign language as well as the different ways of managing them. The third section analyses the contribution of foreign languages, in a multilingual country like Cameroon, to the promotion of cultural diversity. Lastly, the fourth part shows that German and Spanish studies are a great opportunity for the development of an African country like Cameroon, still underdeveloped more than fifty years after its independence.
Therefore, the book is directed at foreign languages students and teachers. Other learners can also benefit from it particularly those interested in letters and social sciences.
