Nowadays new media is a central part in the lives of kids and teenagers. Therefore it is essential that fears and worries concerning their use in classrooms are overcome in order to integrate them in schools. In this article the creation of a blended learning scenario to William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” is described. The scenario consists of an adventure computer game as a pre-reading plan concerning content and language of the drama and a face to face simulation to activate their communicative skills. The scenario was tested in school and the study shows clearly that it had an extensive positive influence on the students. The attitude towards Shakespeare and “Hamlet” was positively altered because of the student’s creative involvement and fears and worries were diminished. It could also be seen that the motivation of the learners increased. Moreover an increase concerning the students’ willingness to read could be found especially their willingness to read the original work. Their possibility to change their perspective increased as well. It also became clear that the vocabulary and the information gathered in the game were actually used in the following simulation. Therefore the blended learning scenario is an ideal beginning of a literary teaching unit and is highly suitable as a pre-reading activity.

Therefore a meaningful and promising way of integrating new media into foreign language literary lessons is demonstrated that makes use of the advantages of new media and because of the creation of a blended learning scenario possible disadvantages are compensated.
