About this book deutschenglish
Against the background of the popularity of the New Woman, especially in fashion graphics and fashion photography, this work dealt with the fashionable images of women from the 1930s in the German magazine Die Dame. In those years, Die Dame was one of the leading European fashion magazines, she was an elitist journal „for the hightest taste“.
The analysis period covers the late years of the Weimarer Republik and the first years of government of the Nazis and ends at the beginning of the Second World War. It is about the change of the exemplary image of women in fashion photography, which is analyzed and interpreted among other things on the basis of the body representation, the fashion line and the photo design, but also in the context of regime change with the method of serial-iconographic photo analysis. In contrast to the fashionable images of women in the 1920s, it is a subject that has hardly been researched.
