Die Religionswissenschaftlerin Nina Käsehage ist dem Phänomen auf den Grund gegangen und hat 175 Salafistinnen und Salafisten interviewt. What are the reasons for people to convert to Islam? Does this step into a so called “new life” really include a break-up with the former environment, like the media supposes? Or is it possible to convert to Islam without breaking up with family and friends? Following the title of this book, people who – in their own words – have “found back” to the Islam, tell us about their motives for this decision and how their environment reacted. Beside famous preachers from the German Salafi Scene and their adherents, there were people interviewed, who found their way to Islam decades ago and who do not identify themselves with this scene.
Due to the different biographies of the so called “converts”, the reader gets the chance to see this group more differentiated and to understand the individuality of the conversion-decisions personally.
Very often there seems to be a link between the conversion to Islam and the refusal of a Democratic Legislation. This issue is discussed by comparing the German Grundgesetz and the Shari´a in specific aspects. Furthermore it is set in context to the empiric source in order to see how the converts judge these aspects themselves.
