The phenomenon of globalization can indisputably be described as one of the main characteristics of our society in the 21st century. Economic success increasingly depends on successful intercultural cooperation and intercultural competence has become a key resource. Employees often need to be able to operate adequately and effectively in a foreign cultural environment. In the context of international assignments, the requirements are even more complex. Expatriates are facing the challenge of integrating into a new, complex cultural system both privately and professionally, while at the same time successfully mastering what is often a very responsible technical task. Consequently, structured personnel selection processes, as well as intercultural preparation and support during the international assignment in line with the requirements are of great importance.

The objective of the present study is to analyze relevant correlations and interactions between selected predictors and success variables of international assignments in the target group of German expatriates in the automotive industry. Based on the results, recommendations for international personnel selection and development are formulated.
