About this book deutsch english

In the scientific discussion as well as on a company level, value-based inventory management is often a book with seven seals. Stock out costs in case of short-term delivery capacity are usually completely ignored with reference to an enormous and therefore uneconomical analytical efforts. Instead, safety stocks are defined which are intended to cushion potential demand peaks in the future without taking into account the fluctuations in historical demand and without reliable forecasting methods. In practice, service levels are almost exclusively estimated - as a target value - and not derived. The question of how much stock can be "afforded" in the truest sense of the word remains unanswered. Especially in this field there is a considerable potential for savings.

This book provides maximum transparency over the “best” cost-optimized inventory levels along the supply chain. For this purpose, the costs of warehousing are fully analyzed and the capital costs explicitly taken into account. Furthermore, the different characteristics of stock out costs and their model effect on cost-optimized service levels are examined from the point of view of distribution logistics. The elaboration is rounded off by the analysis of the influences on the delivery capacity, which are justified in the production or procurement logistics. In this case, for example, scrap rates in production are to be mentioned, which can dash delivery schedules and commitments to customers in the short term.

Thus, this book makes an important contribution to the discussion of logistics and warehouse managers about cost-optimized inventory levels, which are often focused on pure inventory reductions. This discussion can now be conduct on a factual, comprehensible basis.
