About this book deutschenglish

The shortening of development times and product life cycles are the result of increasing competition caused by technological and economic upswing. The resulting increased demand for energy as well as politically created claims to technological change require the initiation and implementation of innovative energy technologies. Compared to conventional product innovations innovative energy technologies are complex technologies whose realization requires higher investment and enterprise-wide collaboration with representatives from industry, science and politics. Innovators in Germany find further support by the cluster policy at the federal level and by a federal incentive system at the local level. Thus the implementation of successful innovation projects requires cooperation of locally available players.

To investigate the influence of the development site on the success of innovative energy technologies the author access’s on the diamond model of Porter. The factors included by the model differ inter alia in factor conditions, demand conditions, competition, supporting industries and the state. Since the effect of these so-called driving forces were not subjected to empirical investigation within the meaning of success factors research, this study is concerned with their impact on the success of innovative energy technologies. In addition, the work provides valuable insights into the "classic" product- and cooperation-related success factors. Based on a quantitative survey of German innovation cooperation it could be determined, for example, that the effectiveness of an innovative energy technology depends inter alia on the existence of skilled labor, product advantage and trust. Furthermore regional subsidies seem particularly important especially in the market and diffusion phase. Thus the study provides a valuable contribution to a better understanding of success and failure of innovative energy technologies as well as interesting information for funding authority.
