The publication presents the results of the research work carried out in the years 2021 to 2023 by the research team of the Philosoph Constantine University in Nitra, Slovakia.

The focus was on the German cultural minority in the surroundings of the village Nitrianske Pravno in the cultural area of Hauerland in Slovakia.

The book deals with the settlement of the study area by the German-speaking population in the 14th century, which took place for the purpose of gold mining and processing. After mining the mineral resources, the Germans also had to change their way of life. During this time, forestry and sheep farming developed in the area. Later, these areas became characterized by seasonal work and emigration.

During and after the Second World War, a large part of the German-speaking population was displaced and deported. The cultural trauma caused by these processes is also the subject of research.

The last part deals with the current situation of the German minority in the area of Nitrianske Pravo. Both material and immaterial cultural elements are analysed.
