The effects of globalization can be experienced in all areas of life, as well as culturally, in the use of language and the knowledge of foreign languages. Foreign language learning and investigations into the learning processes are becoming increasingly important. The latter applies mostly to those language combinations where English is not the target language.

The book focuses on the German and Hungarian languages, documenting an empirical study that aims to explore the interlanguage of Hungarian learners of German. During the research, university students majoring in German Studies were asked to write about their experiences learning German as a foreign language. The essays composed by the target group represent the focus of the study and have been compiled into a corpus consisting of 149 texts. Besides the detailed systematic linguistics error analysis of the written material, additional analytical aspects of the research extend to language attitude, language learning habits, strategies and language learning motivations of the advanced-level language learners. Despite the great differences in data, general trends can be determined regarding language acquisition and the language skills of the target group.

The increasing importance of multilingualism in Europe highlights the relevance of Huber’s book on the interlanguage of Hungarian university students majoring in German Studies. Her work is a potentially fruitful starting point for further inquiries that aim at the scientific theoretical-practical exploration of the interlanguage phenomenon.
