This paper deals with the adoption and use of words „from the Chinese language and culture“ in the German language and calls them „sinisms“.
This work focused on the linguistic analysis of the sinisms on the basis of independently collected language data and evaluation.
This paper examines systematically sinisms in the dictionary of the German language DUDEN and in the SPIEGEL with regard to their frequency (according to word types, subject areas and classifications) and degree of integration of the individual language levels (phonological, graphematical, morphosyntactic and semantic). This makes it possible to conduct a convincing study of Chinese borrowings in German, both qualitatively and quantitatively.
The importance of this work is to significantly reduce a gap in the description: that of the linguistic and cultural description of Chinese-German borrowings. It offers abundant and broad cultural backgrounds and linguistic investigations. It is understood as a suggestion, a contribution to further research and to make „Sinisms in German“ a subject of discussion.
