About this book deutschenglish

Waldkindergarten pedagogy has established itself worldwide as a daycare concept and is one of the most innovative approaches in pedagogy of early childhood. This book about pedagogy of early childhood in Germany and South Korea focuses on the educational areas of movement, play and aesthetics in forest kindergartens and it is one of the first international and intercultural comparative studies about forest kindergarten pedagogy. At the center of this empirical educational study is the exploration of similarities and differences in the understanding of education, the (educational) goals and the importance of the three educational areas of movement, play and aesthetics in forest kindergartens in Germany and South Korea. In Germany forest kindergartens have existed since the 1990s and have been established in the education system for 30 years. On the other hand, in South Korea, forest kindergartens are seen as an innovative approach, which is sometimes perceived as a foreign body in the educational landscape. Parents and pedagogical specialists from both countries were interviewed with a written questionnaire. In addition to dealing with the history of the two education systems as well as nature and forest education, it provides insights into the current implementation of the educational areas of movement, play and aesthetics in forest kindergartens and their social acceptance and presents cross-cultural similarities and differences. The main result of this study is that despite different educational understandings and different cultures, forest kindergarten pedagogy in both countries has a lot in common, due to the fact the South Koreans have adopted many aspects and attitudes from Germany. In both countries forest kindergarten pedagogy has e.g. a special degree of nature experiences as well as a strong (free) play and movement orientation. The work concludes with a summary of the most important findings and an outlook on the entire topic.
