In this work, it is first examined whether the era of the first foreign banks in Ethiopia, in the 20th century, had an impact on the current handling of foreign banks by the Ethiopian government.

Furthermore, the latest reforms / laws in relation to the banking sector in Ethiopia as well as the current handling of foreign financial institutions in Ethiopia are examined.

The Ethiopian financial sector has not yet been studied to any significant extent in the light of financial globalization. Therefore, the work focuses on the banking sector in Ethiopia and the question of whether the entry of foreign banks into the Ethiopian financial sector would benefit the national interest of Ethiopia.
