about this bookdeutsch english Over the past few years, the influence of Business Intelligence on science and practice has increased tremendously. The evolution of BI however, often caused inefficient compositions and thereby prevented optimal supply of information. In many cases, responding to these occuring difficulties resulted in the formation of a central instance; the so called Business Intelligence Competency Center (BICC). However, acknowledging the necessity for BICC's resulted in questions about the organizational, professional, technical and data related aspects of designing it. To attend to these problems, an approach was derived of designing a BICC according to the BI strategy of a company. Considering that many already existing design options cannot be deduced from a BI strategy. Some attributes of the composition of a BICC definitely depend on the design of the company itself. The purpose of this dissertation is to explore the options of designing a BICC based on the design of the company. Due to the insufficient research available on this matter, we chose an exploratory approach for our research. The exploration reverts on existing BICC implementations. Here, many promising and efficient solutions have already come to existence, reflecting the learning and adaption capabilities of companies. Complying with the purpose of this dissertation, we will therefore conduct empirical and exploratory research in order to be able to expose and later refine interrelations between the design of a company and the design of a BICC.
