About this book deutschenglish

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is an efficiency measurement tool that is quite common, especially in the scientific literature. In practice, however, DEA seems to have received little attention so far. One reason for this is probably the methodological complexity, which could be "deterrent" especially for first-time users. To counteract this, various procedural models for the application of DEA have been developed. However, if "conspicuous" or even implausible analysis results occur, the user encounters certain limitations of these procedure models. One problematic analysis result is zero values in the weighting scheme determined by DEA. These zero weights exclude inputs/outpus previously considered relevant in the productivity term in such a way, that they don´t play an immediatly apperent role in the efficiency value. Although the associated interpretation problems have been known for a long time and weight restrictions are considered to be a proven solution to the problem, no procedure model for the application of weight restrictions is yet available. As with the development of a DEA model, users are faced with a "thicket" of modeling decisions that can seem "impenetrable" at first glance due to the wealth of literature that has appeared since the late 1980s. Based on a case study from the waste management industry, a procedure model is therefore developed in this book to support the application of weight restrictions.
