[...] Insgesamt lässt sich feststellen, dass die Monographie von Frąckowiak ihrer Aufgabe nachgeht und einen wertvollen Beitrag zur Phraseologieforschung leistet. Im theoretischen Teil der Arbeit wird die deutsch- und polnischsprachige phraseologische Fachliteratur breit rezipiert und interpretiert. Dem analytischen Teil der Monographie liegt ein umfangreiches Korpus von Presseüberschriften zugrunde, auf dessen Grundlage die Typologie von Phraseologismen und phraseologischen Modifikationen im deutsch-polnischen Vergleich erstellt wird.

First, a research problem should be formulated about the diversity of terminology and definitions in the context of German and Polish research on phraseology.

Second, the work aims at classification and comparison of phraseological units as well as their structural and semantic modifications occurring in both languages in question. Some combinations of several types of structural modifications as well as semantic processes for formal modifications of phraseological units are also discussed.

The third and last goal is an analysis of frequency of use of traditional and modified phrasemes in German and Polish headlines taken from commentaries in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Rzeczpospolita and Gazeta Wyborcza.

On the basis of empirical material the semantic complexity of phraseological units has been presented, as well as text-creating and usually creative potencies of phrasemes and cross-cultural common traits, possible similarities and significant differences between the two examined languages of press. On the basis of reputable works from the scope of research of German and Polish phraseology and numerous press texts new classifications of traditional and modified phrasemes have been worked out, which may turn out to be useful in future linguistic analyses.

This work also evaluates gaps in research and shows certain research desiderata which are reserved for future research and critical studies. Therefore, the current study is one of the first corpus contrastive researches on German-Polish press phraseology. This work aims, to a certain degree, at filling the gaps in the current state of research.
