According to current forecasts, the international aviation sector will most likely increase its continuous growth in the next decades. Connected with this development, the corresponding environmental impacts – especially greenhouse gas emissions – will also increase if no effective measures will be taken. Therefore, the application of alternative fuels with low greenhouse gas emission potentials is of increased interest. Against this background the goal of this work is to develop a methodological approach to analyze processes respectively provision chains for the production of aviation biofuels and to assess and compare them regarding technical and economic criteria. Hereby the focus lies on a detailed technical analysis of four different biokerosene production processes. These processes are the Alcohol-to-Jet (AtJ), the Biogas-to-Liquids (Bio-GtL), the Biomass-to-Liquids (BtL) as well as the Hydrogenated Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA) process. Based on the technical analysis resent and potential future costs for the years 2017, 2030 and 2045 are determined. These results allow the identification of future cost reduction potentials for the considered pathways.
