[...] Resümierend lässt sich sagen, dass in der Monographie das Thema der ÄRGER-Emotionen ausführlich und nachvollziehbar dargestellt wird. Das dreischrittige Verfahren, das semantische Analyse, syntaktisch-semantische Valenzuntersuchung und Darstellung der konzeptuellen Metaphern und Metonymien einschließt, gewährleistet eine breite Forschungsperspektive. Der theoretisch fundierte Teil der Arbeit stellt eine genaue und adäquate Einführung in dieses Thema dar. Außerdem muss noch bemerkt werden, dass das Thema der Untersuchung – Emotionen – einen aktuellen Forschungsbereich der modernen Linguistik repräsentiert. In diesem Sinne bildet die hier kurz vorgestellte Monographie eine wertvolle Neuerscheinung auf dem Gebiet der Linguistik.

Emotions emerge as one of the most explored research topics across those humanities disciplines that integrate different approaches and perspectives. The sheer amount of theoretical and practical research shows that emotions gain interest from scholars of different persuasions and become more and more academically attractive.

The author analyses a cluster of emotions that fall under the umbrella concept of ANGER. Their extraordinary expressiveness differentiates them from other emotions, which usually carry negative connotations. The study emphasizes the relations between the external physical world and the inner world of feelings, as well as between the mind and language. The author concisely but exhaustively discusses a philosophical, psychological, sociological, and linguistic basis for her analyses.

The study aims to show how diversified the semantic field of ANGER is and, using metalinguistic symbols, to precisely determine the meanings of its selected lexical items.

Methodologically, the study combines elements of a semantic field analysis with Conceptual Metaphor Theory and examines syntactic and semantic argument structure patterns. The proposed method enables an accurate description of semantic links and divergences within the semantic field of ANGER. As a result of its application, a more complete picture of the semantics of ANGER has been drawn and the relations between emotions and the mind, on one hand, and language, on the other, have been described.
