Even though autistic people are still markedly underrepresented in the work life, there are examples of successful participation. But affected persons also report of numerous difficulties autistic persons and their employers are permanently faced with during daily work routine. Which factors stimulate stable working conditions and which strategies facilitate long term employment contracts? Based on a theoretical overview that contrasts the different perceptions towards autism the theoretical model of the „balanced adaption “ was developed. It refers to the above questions on the basis of a survey of autistic persons and their employers within the scope of a qualitative study. This practice-oriented model identifies concepts which should support the vocational paticipation of autistic persons. The study composition shows scores of quotations of the survey which gives fascinating insights into several work-life biographies of autistic persons. At the same time the reader gains insights of the experiences and notions of employers which have already gained experiences with the integration of autistic persons into the working life.
