As a result, much is falsely interpreted and attributed to Hinduism. This book describes the problem of the West's categorization of Hinduism as a religion. In doing so it considers that the term Hinduism is itself a Western notion which was first assumed by the Indians only later. Over the course of the book, the mainstream branches of Hinduism are presented and their similarities elaborated. Here the meaning of Dharma as a commonly-used equivalent for religion takes center stage.
