The astronomical implications in the works of Piero della Francesca will be shown. The catalyst was the recognition of the central position of the Sun in Domenico Venezianos Adoration of 1435 whose coworker was Piero. The subject of the Baptism of Christ as well as the Ressurrection and other paintings is always the revolution of the planets around their center. A highlight is the experimental proof of the Earth's rotation by a pendulum that took place in the dome of Urbino. Without the groundwork of this “painting astronomer and physician” the modern era would not be imaginable.
