A large number of studies show, that a sufficient level of sports-type physical activity is very important in terms of supporting the motor, cognitive and social development. However, it has not been finally clarified which form of sports-type physical activity has the greatest influence on the motor and cognitive development. Furthermore, it remains unclear how the development of both domains is interrelated. In particular, for the specific relationship between fundamental movement skills and executive functions, there is a lack of studies. However, several scientists classify this research approach as highly relevant. This research approach seems promising, because the mastery of fundamental movement skills is seen as an important factor for taking part in sport activities. In turn, being physically active means making use of the positive effects on cognitive function triggered by physical activity. This work investigates the specific relationship between fundamental object-control skills and executive functions in primary school children. In a longitudinal study with an investigation period of one school year, the data of 156 pupils were analyzed. The results are discussed in research context and practical advices are deduced. Although, many questions are not clarified yet, the results of this work, the current state of knowledge and actual practical experiences should be used to implement specific interventions in the everyday school life and sports club in an early state of development seems promising to promote the development of fundamental movement skills and executive functions.
