The scientific and practical study of the relationship of music to visual arts and new media inevitably leads to the idea that in a world dominated by images, media and communications, music education as part of musicology requires an interdisciplinary examination. In this book, the interface and interaction between the various artistic fields are explored in conjunction with new media. Various aspects were chosen: requirements, aspects of media and media-social development, creative process, mediation processes, mediation through perception, sound of images – images of sounds in time and space and exemplary digital building blocks.

The historical development of interdisciplinary relationships is evidence of a close link. In the iconography of music, the musical representations assume mediation functionality. In the book, the following topics are discussed in more detail: the discussion about Paragons of the Renaissance, the prologue of Paragons of baroque opera and the aesthetic discussion about 1800 AD. Even the relationship between iconography of music and musical practice is examined through a few examples.

A separate theme is the idea of “art as a whole” and the common “spirit of art”, i.e. the uniting of the arts. The attempt of educational artists to transfer the "immaterial art – music" to painting also constitutes a chapter in the book.

Perception plays a central role in the aesthetic process. That is why the book has devoted an article to this topic. Likewise, it reviews the space-time problem since in the intermedia forms the transition between space and time is blurred.
