About this book deutschenglish

Leads the cochlear implant supply of a deaf child of deaf or highly hearingimpaired parents on changes within the family? The cochlear implantation of their own child means for deaf or highly hearing-impaired parents an emotionally charged, difficult decision process. They themselves feel they belong primarily to the deaf community with its own language and own culture. The CI allows children the way in listening and spoken language, a path that can accompany and support only limited by their own parents hearing impairment. The present qualitative study is focused on the examination within family relationships after cochlear implantation of a child of deaf parents. Relationship experience and behavior, family internal communication forms, the perception of parents in regard to the spoken language acquisition of their child in general and concerning to the necessary support from outsiders are representing important aspects of investigation. In-depth interviews both the deaf and highly hearing-impaired parents as well as the CI-supplied children gave their view to these different areas of life, what gained extensive insights in family life and daily routine.
