About this book deutschenglish
The discussion on whether airports possess a “natural monopoly” on their facilities and whether the prices they charge airlines should consequently be regulated has been going on for years. There is no univocal answer yet. A large variety of regulatory approaches still exists across Europe, reaching from strict, formal price-cap regulations in some countries to loosely enforced price surveillance in others. The approval of a first EU directive on this topic in 2009 has not changed this situation. Florian Mueller offers a comprehensive review of the current state of airport charges regulation in Europe. Based on expert interviews with numerous major airports, he also analyses how regulation actually affects airports’ actions and decisions in their day-to-day business. To do that, the author covers all major airport planning processes in-depth, including e.g. investment and financial or cost and revenue planning. Thus, the book provides a constructive, academic discussion on the purpose and design of charges regulation as well as a set of actionable recommendations for airport managers. Keywords
