About this book deutschenglish

Tanja Habermeyer analyzes communication strategies for scientific findings in three experimental studies: The effective implementation of mental simulation in science communication for the topic of climate change is developed on the basis of six research desiderata. This work aims to investigate the use of mental simulation in this field, a communication strategy that is interpreted by various authors as a particularly concrete, tangible and personally close type of narrative. To analyze the effects of mental simulation, a model based on narratives-related processing and environmentally-relevant behavior-formation is developed and tested. Findings show that mental simulation can present the relevance and feasibility of environmentally-relevant behaviors more effectively than classic narratives. The optimal use of mental simulation is developed regarding the extent of the given cues, the thematic implementation and the simulation ability of individuals. The work represents a relevant contribution to research on the effectiveness of communication strategies, on science communication and on narratives. Theoretical implications for the research fields are derived. Concrete practical recommendations for communicating climate change are developed. The findings are discussed in terms of their theoretical and empirical relevance, and further possibilities for expanding the relevant research field are derived.
