As climate change mitigation intensifies, the exploration of “sustainability” and “digitalisation” in residential real estate becomes critical. This sector accounts for nearly half of global building emissions. Focusing on eco-friendly smart home technologies, the author examines their limited adoption despite significant potential. Through three empirical lenses – spanning academic literature, real estate investors, and end-consumers – the study identifies key drivers and barriers to adoption. The findings aim to inform both theory and practice, advancing the sustainable digital transformation of residential real estate.
