Hermann Ölberg (1922–2017) was professor at the Department of Linguistics of the University of Innsbruck. His main interests were language typology, international auxiliary languages, Albanology, and toponomastics. As a researcher and university teacher he was an influential figure in his department and his faculty, and internationally he was well-known in the 1970s and 1980s as one of the leading authorities on Albanian.
The memorial volume contains a short biography of Ölberg and contributions by friends and former students, dealing with contrastive grammar, the standardisation of Albanian, toponyms in Albania and elsewhere, and complex etymological questions of Albanian.
