About this book deutschenglish

Impact research is gaining more and more importance in the area of Special Education. Considering the late developments within the student body it is crucial to design teaching concepts to foster joint learning in the field of ‘Pedagogy for impairment of intellectual development’, which are to be evaluated in terms of their effectiveness. Based on the modern art style of Action Painting (Jackson Pollock), the ActionPaintingIntervention (API) offers an effective, action-orientated teaching concept for arts classes, targeting students with intellectual disabilities and aggressive or as proplematical perceived behavior. The effectiveness of the API-concept was demonstrated in 14 controlled single case studies using a multiple-baseline design over a period of three school years.

The results indicate that the API’s didactic structures counteract aggressive behavior, caused by the increase of action competence of the subjects due to the experience of positive self-efficacy during educational processes. Joint learning and the experience of self-efficacy encourages students to withdraw from aggressive behavior patterns and instead to participate more in class through social action. The API-concept helps to stabilize relationships and establishes responsible acting in school processes. In addition to the application of the standardized measurement instrument BASYS, the Instrument for Data Collection of Aggressive Behavior (IKEAV) was developed for in-classroom use. The IKEAV is very well suited as an independent tool to measure agressive and as problematical perceived behavior of studends with intellctual disabilities.
