About this book deutschenglish
This book describes a dramatic period of 20th century Romanian history, with particular emphasis on the repression of the Romanian Orthodox Church by the Communist Party.
Making use of reliable sources, unique records and exclusive interviews, it focuses on the Orthodox Church, seen against the background of the Romanian society and the political regime of the day.
It also highlights the policies enforced by dictators such as Gh. Gheorghiu-Dej and Nicolae Ceaușescu, as well as the whole communist apparatus at their disposal, which included re-education through torture.
Of special interest is the author’s analysis of sensitive issues – never examined before him – like the connection between the Romanian Orthodox Church and the right wing extremist movement „The Legion of St. Michael“, the question of identity in theology and the impact of the communist ideology on the Romanian Church and the Orthodox Church during Ceaușescu’s rule and after the 1989 Revolution.
