About this book deutschenglish

eSports conquers the german soccer market. A growing number of Bundesliga clubs are signing professional gamers and are setting up their own eSports teams. Despite these developments, eSports still struggles to gain recognition as an official sport in Germany. The question arises, why soccer teams continue to invest in eSports, and what impact does this cooperation have on both the Bundesliga and the eSports market?

The book “eSports in German professional soccer - between digital marketing instrument and officially recognized sport“ assesses this controversial topic and provides detailed background on the rapid development and professionalization of eSports in Germany.

The main focus lies on the symbiosis of soccer and eSports, which is discussed and analyzed from different perspectives. Furthermore, the book deals with the political and legal recognition of eSports as sports.

Additionally, eight expert interviews provide exclusive insights into the world of eSports and the German Bundesliga.

Among others, Martin Müller, Vice President of the “eSport-Bund Deutschland e. V.“ (“ESBD“) was interviewed as well as the eSports managers of the Bundesliga clubs VfL Wolfsburg and VfL Bochum. In addition, Dorothee Bär, Minister of State for Digitalisation, comments on the inclusion of eSports into the German coalition agreement.
