For several years, increases in fees and especially differences in fees for municipal household waste management have been the focus of public interest. Citizens cannot understand the immense differences in fees for the same waste management services. Municipalities mostly attribute the differences to different framework conditions and are critical of fee comparisons – not least because they are often accused of inefficiencies in the provision of services. In this book, on the one hand, a holistic system of the complex factors and structures influencing the level of household waste management fees is developed. On the other hand, a comprehensive empirical study is carried out on the basis of a Germany-wide data collection.
