Identity and Access Management (IAM) represents a basic infrastructure for every organization. As IAM is continuously developing, it will also be shaped by the digital environment in the future. As a result, efficient IAM systems with a well thought-out strategy develop into decisive competitive advantages. Due to the lack of direct effectiveness, many organizations do not recognize the beneficial effects of IAM.

This dissertation takes up the previous scientific definitions of IAM and derives a definition in the current context. On this basis, a process model is developed with which the profitability from the introduction of an IAM system can be analyzed regardless of organization and industry. In order to develop the procedure, 18 investment valuation processes are first evaluated in order to derive a suitable approach for the introduction. A literature review of 24 scientific IAM sources has shown that the already established 4A model forms a comprehensive and equally flexible basis for the further development of IAM. Based on the knowledge gained and the high requirements, only a few mixing methods are suitable from the examined methods, of which the Bayesian Network is ultimately selected as the basis for the modeling. The modeled Bayesian Network has 390 nodes and 959 edges and enables the derivation of the organization-specific profitability from the introduction of an IAM system. The application of the Bayesian Network based on a designed case study shows the premises under which the introduction of an IAM system is profitable and offers a clear framework for the implementation of the IAM system.

Consequently, the developed model enables the economic evaluation of the implementation of an IAM system and quantifies the added value of the investment.
