The demographic change of the German people has been in a steady transformation for several years, and is becoming a detriment for the entire nation. This is due to overall aging of the population and a decline in the population, especially in rural areas; it seems to be unpreventable for the future.
Whole regions in the eastern German states have already been impacted by their populations moving to other areas.
In this thesis, the demographic change in the Schwalm-Eder-district, in northern Hesse, will be studied in order to analyze the extent to which small and medium-sized enterprises are already affected. Only when early measures are taken to deal with demographic changes, can consequences be reduced, and affected stakeholders can be involved in solving the problem.
In addition to the aging population, there is also a decline in skilled labor and the shortage of training places. The corporations of the region are in a competition. In addition to the ongoing effort to contest (an economic) competition, it encouraged the cooperations to find a promising solution to the problem, to assert itself against other districts.
It is necessary to develop promising measures that can help small and medium-sized enterprises in a region characterized by the middle class like northern Hesse, to counter the demographic change.
A corresponding list of measures can be the basis for action by all stakeholders in a region in order to meet the challenges of demographic change together.
If you want to be prepared for the future, you need to anticipate it and try to influence it now, especially since some industries are already acutely affected. Therefore, it is important to recognize and address problems at an early stage, to draw the right conclusions so that it is possible to make key decisions. This thesis will contribute to this.
