About this book deutschenglish
Architecture is an important element of our environment. Architecture is related to private life (family houses, flats), professional life (office buildings, banks, universities), daily duties (public buildings, schools), religious worship (temples, churches), and leisure.
Although architecture is a part of human life and touches every aspect of it, not everyone is able to speak or write about architecture and the buildings and objects that represent it. On the one hand, this requires historical knowledge, and on the other hand, it calls for a mastery of the professional language, i.e. the language of architecture.
Architecture has made a significant contribution to the history of Polish-German relations. Today, too, it strengthens these relations, and this publication aims to facilitate communication in Polish-German relations through the language of architecture. It is a collection of the most commonly used architectural terms and phrases in Polish and German. It consists of two parts - a Polish-German and a German-Polish dictionary, each of which contains more than 2,000 most important architectural terms. Each entry is accompanied by a definition and German or Polish equivalent.
The aim of this publication is to close a publication gap; to date, there has been no bilingual Polish-German and German-Polish dictionary of architecture. Until now, numerous studies of architectural vocabulary have been available in monolingual versions, either in Polish or in German. While they made it possible to get acquainted with the meaning and definitions of many concepts from the language of architecture, they were insufficient as a reference for translators looking for adequate equivalents for these concepts in German or Polish. This publication is intended to help translators in their future work on the translation of texts related to architecture and at the same time to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about architecture in Poland and Germany.
