About this book deutschenglish
Appreciations of the work of Julius Adolph Stöckhardt (1809–1886) and especially of his book „The School of Chemistry“ indicate that he discussed already in his dissertation „Res naturales qua de causa perscrutandae, qua methodo docendae et tractandae, quomodo naturae convenienter disponendae“ – published in 1837 – pedagogical and didactic problems.
But this dissertation was available until now only in Latin and in a low number of libraries. So it was focused only to a small readership. The editors of the book eliminated this desideratum by a first translation and a new edition of this work.
The Latin text is published on the left page, the German one on the right page. Numbers for sentences or paragraphs allow a perfect comparison of both versions.
The original printed dissertation with a Curriculum Vitae includes a scheme which is also translated and edited.
This illustration is followed by a detailed biography of the author which is especially known as agro chemist. Then the content of the dissertation is discussed briefly. Concerning the extent and the quality it cannot be compared with modern dissertations. Moreover the lifetime achievements of Stöckhardt are described. It is discussed if there are references to his dissertation.
The statements about pedagogical and didactic problems are marginal but this book allows an insight in the knowledge of Julius Adolph Stöckhardt in the time when he wrote his dissertation.
